Happy 2015! - Feliz Año Nuevo 2015!

2014 has been a year full of activity for me - art forms are a greater part of my life and have made loads of new plans for 2015. I will continue to teach sketching workshops and working hard at making City Arts a great art hub in Newbury. Also I have a few architecture projects also  in progress.

A few sketches from my Portugal trip with Dean in September, a very busy M1 (part of the Cover to Cover sketchbook exchange) and a sketch in Madrid in December to say - Happy New Year!

       

2014 ha sido un año muy activo y el arte forma una parte mayor de mi vida. El 2015 traerá más talleres de dibujo, y continuaré trabajando en la creación de un centro de arte, City Arts, en Newbury. También sigo teniendo algún proyecto arquitectónico que otro.

El dia 5 Enero vimos un concierto maravilloso de la orquesta de Cateura - podeis verles aqui
Sus instrumentos estan hechos de basura que sus familias recojen y trasiegan.
Los chicos y el director son estupendos y el concierto fue muy divertido.
Si teneis occasion de verles os los recomiendo.

We went to see a wonderful concert on teh 5th of January - Cateura's orchestra - you can see them here
Their instruments are made of rubbish that their families collect and deal with.
The children and the conductor/director are brilliant and the concert was very well received and amusing. If you have an occassion to see them I recommend them.

Después de BCN estuve unos días en SG (Segovia) practicando técnicas, mezclándolas y generalmente poniendo nerviosas a mis acompañantes sobre todo cuando las dibujaba :)
Aquí van algunos de los dibujos en el cuaderno mas ligero y pequeño. Mas adelante pondré las acuarelas (mas grandes) que ahora puedo escanear también.

After BCN I went to Segovia (SG) for a while, and practiced techniques, mixed them a bit and also managed to annoy my companions especially when I drew them:) Here go a few of the sketches I did in the lighter, smaller book. Later, I will upload some of the watercolours (larger drawings) that I can now also scan.

Los dos últimos dibujos los hice desde la terraza del bar nuevo del Alcázar, y "ayudada" con el spray del ventilador/humidificador para mojarme el dibujo y difuminarlo.

 

The last two drawings from the terrace of the new bar in the Alcazar  were helped by the spray of the humidifier fan to wet the drawing and blur it

Before, during and after the simposium - Antes, durante y despues del simposio

There is always a time beforehand and afterwards. In this case before the symposium the main feeling was excitement and desire to draw. During the symposium, the main sensation was euphoria, desire to meet people and of experimenting with techniques. Afterwards, it was not calm as one might expect but the desire continued, more than ever, to keep on trying and sharing the drawings and the experience. 
Here I show you some of my drawings before (Gaudi's Guell palace and park), drawings from two of the workshops I attended, Inma Serrano's -all colour  -and Barry Jackson's , which I did three times as I was translating it, and where I got well into the proposal. The day after the symposium, I went for a quiet walk to places I had been recommended and drew Santa Maria del Mar (the fishermen's cathedral Isaac told us).
Siempre hay un antes y un después.
En este caso del simposio el antes lo copa la ilusión y las ganas de dibujar, el durante, una sensación de euforia, de conocer gente, de experimentar. El después no fue la calma (como podría uno esperar) sino la continuación y mas ganas que nunca de seguir probando y compartiendo los dibujos y las experiencias.
Aquí os dejo algunos de mis dibujos de antes (palacio y parque Güell de Gaudí), de dos de los talleres a los que asistí: el de Inma Serrano (color y mas color) y el de Barry Jackson (que hice tres veces pues hacia de traductora - y en el que me metí bien adentro de la propuesta).
Después, el día siguiente al simposio, di un paseo mas calmada, por lugares que me habían recomendado, y dibuje Santa María del Mar (la catedral de los Pescadores nos dijo Isaac).

"Mi Cementerio" - Newtown Road Cemetery

Tengo que admitirlo - me encantan los cementerios. Vivo en frente de uno en Newbury (UK) y lo tengo muy dibujado. Es alargado, 18000 m2, y tiene dos secciones una de anglicanos y otra de "dissenters" (el resto de religiones y no religiones). Se cree que tiene unas once mil personas enterradas allí lo que es impresionante cuando se considera que la población en Newbury en el año 2001 rondaba los 28000!
I have to admit I really like cemeteries. I live opposite one in Newbury (UK) and I have draw in again and again. It is long and thin but large (18000 m2). It has two sections one for anglicans and one for dissenters (all other religions and non religions).  It seems that around 11000 people are buried here which is impressive considering that Newbury's population in 2001 was approximately 28000!

A lo largo del muro hay unos arboles maravillosos que cambian de aspecto según la temporada. En las últimas semanas han cambiando radicalmente porque les han podado drasticamente. Cuando anunciaron la poda,me dedique a dibujarlos casi cada día para no olvidar su esplendor.
Along the wall there are some old fantastic trees that change througout the year. In the last few weeks they have changed radically as they've been seriously pollarded. When they announced they'd be pollarded, I started to draw then almost daily not to forget their splendid presence.

La operación poda ha tardado más de una semana, casi dos y aquí hay algunos dibujillos del proceso, con una grúa telescópica y el señor desde lo alto cortaba las ramas, echaba las abajo donde tenían una trituradora que convertía los troncos en serrín. Un poco triste.
Han quedado bien pelados - como podéis ver. Menos mal que volverán a crecer, aunque llevara tiempo, pero son pacientes. Los veo ahí como guardas y presenciando un montón de sucesos - si pudieran hablar !!
It has taken more than a week  (almost two) to pollard them all, and here are some sketches of the process with a telescopic crane with a basket in the top from which one of the men saw the branches and let them drop down into a pile. They had also a chipper to make woodchip of all the cut wood. A little bit sad.
They have been left well trimmed, as you can see. Just as well they will grow again, although it will take some time but, they are pacient. I see them there keeping guard and witnessing all that happens, if they could talk!

Viaje al norte de Europa: de Stockholm a Amsterdam en tren. Trip to North Europe: from Stockholm to Amsterdam by train

 

Estuve en Estocolmo en una conferencia cinco días primeros de Septiembre así que aprovechamos a hacer un viaje de vuelta en tren pasando por Malmo, Copenhagen y Amsterdam. Menos Malmo todas son ciudades formadas de islas y con agua por todas partes, algo especial pero que desorienta un poco. 
Tenía una recomendación de visitar un cementerio en Estocolmo (diseñado por Asplund) y esta fue la primera visita que hicimos pues solo abre en domingo en el otoño. Aquí van las vistas del centro de visitantes, una capilla y la esplanada a la entrada que es muy reposada.

At the beginning of September i was in Stockholmin a conference and we took the opportunity to do the return trip by train through Malmo, Copenhagenand Amsterdam. ExceptMalmo they are all cities made up of islands with water everywhere which is very special but a little bit disconcerting.
I had a recommendation to visit a cemetery in Stockholm (designed by Asplund) and this was our first visit as in autumn, it only opens on Sundays. Here you have the views of the visitor centre, one little chapel and the big open landscape by the entrance, very calm.

 

Ese día paseamos mucho y acabe haciendo este dibujo del City Hall desde la orilla opuesta mientras descansábamos en un parque. That day we walked a lot and I ended up doing this view of the City Hall from the opposite side whilst resting a bit in the park

De Malmo, muy moderna, dibuje dos edificios nuevos, el Turning Torso de Calatrava y el Museo de Arte Moderno – simplemente NARANJA.   From Malmo, which is very modern, I did two drawings of new buildings, the Turning Torso by Calatrava and the Modern Art Museum, simply ORANGE.

 

Copenhagen esta lleno de turistas y a la sirenita se la ve paciente pero cansada de tanta foto. Hay edificios modernos como la Opera o antiguos como la Bolsa que tiene una torre que parecen serpientes retorcidas muy peculiar.
Copenhagen is full of tourists and the little mermaid seems very patient but a bit tired of so many photos. There are new buildings like the Opera and old like the Bourse that has a very peculiar tower made of what looks like twisted serpents.

Hay bicicletas por todas partes, algunas llevan unos carricoches, mejor carri-bicicletas delante donde llevan los trastos, los niños o el perro, de todo. Este dibujo lo hice en al Via verde que rodea la ciudad.  There are bicycles everywhere, some have a front buggy where they carry anything, the kids, the dog, everything. This view is along the Green route surrounding the city.

Amsterdam tiene casas altas y delgadas a lo largo de sus canales, y en las orillas de estos se acomodan algunos árboles, coches, bicicletas (también muchas), peatones, bares… como en capas. Hice este dibujo mientras esperábamos la comida en una terraza del lado del canal.

Amsterdam has tall and thin houses along its Canals, on the sides there is barely space Leith for trees, cars, bicycles (there are also many here), pedestrians, bars… which make up layers of activity.  I did this drawing while we waited for lunch on a terrace by the canal.

 

El símbolo de I amsterdam delante del Rijks Museum esta lleno de gente haciéndose fotos en todas las posturas. The symbol I amsterdam in front of the Rijks Museum is full of people climbing on it and taking photos in all poses.

El último dibujo en la estación cercana al estadio de Bijlmer la he retocado en Photoshop para darle los colores y no se corriera la tinta.My last drawing of this trip, in the station near the Bijlmer Arena, i have painted it in Photoshop to avoid the running ink.

Feliz 2012! - .Happy 2012!Repasando lo que he hice en el 2011, aqui va un cuadernillo que llene este verano, es un librillo que me hice donde las hojas se doblan en tres y poder tener un formato alargado.
Looking back to my work in 2011, I found this little sketchbook I did this summer, with sheets that fold in three so that I can have a long landscape format to draw on.
